Privacy Policy for WoW Reader
Effective date: September 2, 2026
WoW Reader is an Android application for reading EPUB and PDF books. This Privacy Policy explains what information WoW Reader accesses, how that information is used, and how users can control or delete their data.
1. Local-first operation
WoW Reader is designed to work offline. Books imported by the user, reading progress, bookmarks, highlights, notes, reader preferences, and custom fonts are primarily stored locally on the user's device.
A Google Account is not required for normal offline reading.
2. Google Account information
If a user chooses to connect a Google Account, WoW Reader uses Google Sign-In and Firebase Authentication for account authentication.
WoW Reader may receive basic account information supplied by Google, including:
Google account identifier
Display name
Email address
Profile photo
This information is used only to identify the connected Google Account and display the signed-in account inside WoW Reader.
3. Google Drive access
WoW Reader requests the Google Drive application data permission (drive.appdata) only when the user enables Google Account backup and synchronization.
This permission allows WoW Reader to create, read, update, and delete files created by WoW Reader inside its private Google Drive application-data folder (appDataFolder).
WoW Reader does not request permission to browse, read, modify, or delete the user's normal Google Drive files.
The appDataFolder is a private application-specific storage area provided by Google Drive.
4. Data stored in Google Drive
When backup or synchronization is enabled, the backup may contain:
EPUB and PDF files imported into WoW Reader
Reading progress and resume positions
Bookmarks
Highlights
Notes
Reader and library preferences
Custom reader fonts
This data is stored only to provide backup, synchronization, and restoration of the user's WoW Reader library on the same or another device.
5. How Google user data is used
Google user data accessed by WoW Reader is used only for:
Authenticating the user's Google Account
Identifying the connected account
Creating private WoW Reader backups
Synchronizing supported reading data
Restoring WoW Reader data on another device
WoW Reader does not use Google user data for advertising, profiling, marketing, or unrelated analytics.
6. Data sharing
WoW Reader does not sell, rent, or transfer Google user data to advertisers, data brokers, or unrelated third parties.
Information is transmitted to Google services only as required to provide Google Sign-In, Firebase Authentication, and Google Drive app-data backup and restore functionality.
7. Data retention
Local data remains on the user's device until the user deletes books or data, clears the application's storage, or uninstalls WoW Reader.
Google Drive backup data remains in the connected Google Account's private application-data storage until it is overwritten, deleted by the application, or removed through the user's Google Account controls.
8. User control and deletion
Users may stop Google synchronization by disconnecting or signing out of their Google Account in WoW Reader.
Users may also revoke WoW Reader's Google Account permissions through their Google Account security settings.
Local WoW Reader data can be removed by deleting content in the app, clearing application data, or uninstalling the application.
9. Security
WoW Reader uses Google-provided authentication and authorization mechanisms for Google Account access and limits Google Drive access to the application-data scope required for backup and restore.
Although reasonable measures are used to protect data, no electronic storage or transmission system can guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's privacy
WoW Reader is a general-purpose reading application and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children for advertising or marketing purposes.
11. Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when WoW Reader's features or data practices change. The latest version will always be available on this page.
